Podcast: Everything Happens with Kate Bowler

Everything Happens is a podcast hosted by Kate Bowler, historian and professor at Duke Divinity School. Kate is a young mom and wife who was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in 2015.

Kate’s podcast provides insight into the dignity and respect which we should all strive to bring to our interactions with the “community of the afflicted”, as Kate describes folks living with struggles, health-related and otherwise, in one episode.

In a recent work encounter with a bereaved mother, I was reminded again how terrible our society (myself included) is at dealing with grief. How our discomfort and awkwardness can isolate the grieving and exacerbate their suffering. When I was looking for tools to do better, I turned to Kate.

Whether you deal with people in crisis on a regular basis, or you want to care for a friend who is facing scary health news, or you are looking for a wry and wise take on living through upheaval, you can learn from Kate and her guests.

P.S. Kate and her guests also share examples of what not to do and say to folks who are struggling. Listen up, my dear readers!
